Magazines – you have to love them!  When you don’t have time to sit down and read a book, a magazine is a great alternative.  With a magazine, you are kept up with what’s happening around you, whether it’s beauty, business or fashion.

I subscribe to nine magazines that come in on a monthly or bi-monthly basis and they range from business to entertainment.  I love receiving them in the mail and I get a chance to sit down and relax with the printed words inside.

Besides my obvious subscriptions to The Writer and Writer’s Digest, I recently re-subscribed to Discovery and Psychology Today, magazines I used to get several years ago but lost track.  When I was visiting a Chapters last month, I scanned over them and decided to read the latest issue.  I missed how interesting those magazines were to me so I decided to subscribe to them again.  What I liked so much about them is the insight it gives you into the world and the human mind.  I studied psychology in school and I have always been fascinated as to how the mind works.  Although I’m not much of an environmentalist, I enjoy reading Discover.  It’s more than just a magazine about Earth.

Before I continue, I just want to add that I’m not promoting these magazines for any personal gain.  I want to say that I enjoy reading them for my own enjoyment and, as with any aspiring writer who loves to write and read, I also get my enjoyment in letting people know what good material is out there and some magazines are good reading material.

On that note, I recently subscribed to Fast Company.  This magazine was something that I read a while back but couldn’t decide if I wanted to commit, but the information inside held alot of good articles on how companies work.  Office Pro is also a magazine that is business oriented and it deals with the internal office.  It’s great for anyone in a clerical or office position and it has great articles which I have benefited from while working as a customer service representative and an Administrative Assistant.  I used to be a member of the IAAP but have not renewed my membership.  Instead, I kept the subsciption of the magazine going.

Now, not all my magazines are business oriented as I also subscribe to More Magazine, Elle and Flare.  Fashion is not something that I surround myself with but I like to see what kind of trends are out there.  Elle and Flare concentrate on the fashion, accessories, celebrities and subjects of that nature whereas More Magazine is geared more for women 40 and older.  It’s an intelligent magazine and I hope to write an article for them one day.

Magazines are a great source of entertainment and information.  If you’re lucky, you can get great deals as well, especially during renewal.  If you renew early, some magazines offer a discount.
