I’m not sure about you but I am super excited about the Fan Expo Canada Convention at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from Thursday, August 22nd to Sunday, August 25th. This would make it the 4th year I have attended and this time, I purchased the premium weekend pass to see what it gets me.
You might be saying, “what does Fan Expo have to do with writing?”, well at the convention there are going to be a few workshops that have to do with writing stories, writing screenplays and creating worlds. Some of these workshops are going to be hosted by The Writers Guild of Canada so you can imagine my excitement as I scanned the list on the schedule.
A list of the writing workshops consist of the following:
THURSDAY, AUGUST 22
WORKSHOP – HOW TO PLOT ANY STORY IN UNDER AN HOUR
WRITERS UNITE: PITCHING AND WRITING CREATOR-OWNED COMICS
FRIDAY, AUGUST 23

Join several web series creators as they discuss the craft and business of screenwriting for digital platforms. The rules of writing for the web are in constant flux but the elements of compelling storytelling remain the same – panelists consider the ways media and message come together effectively in their own work for the web, including the balance between episodic and serialization. They look at a variety of financing models and the various ways they have made and marketed their web series. This session is presented by the Writers Guild of Canada.

During the convention, you also find more information on vampires, werewolves and other horrific creatures to add to your world creation. Not to mention many booths that sell books, artwork and resources to help create characters and worlds for when you return home from the convention.
I will be tweeting every step of the way so look for me at https://twitter.com/femmevip.
Hope you can join me at one of Toronto’s largest events.
