Writing Prompt – Close Your Eyes

From all the articles I read and from the blog I wrote on the five senses, it’s hard to remember that your characters don’t live in a bubble so you have to write about their surroundings.

Find a comfortable spot to sit down.  I am sure gone are the days of carrying a mini tape recorder, but close your eyes and describe what you hear and smell.  Whether it’s on paper or taped on your cell phone but with your eyes closed, it will give you a vivid idea of what your characters are hearing and smelling.  You’ll be surprised at how much you can take in.

Try it.  You’ll be surprised at how much you can take in.

  1. I seldom leave remarks, however I read a ton of responses on this page Writing
Prompt – Close Your Eyes | Whim Notes. I do have a few questions for you if you tend not to mind.
Is it just me or do a few of these remarks look like they are left by
brain dead people? 😛 And, if you are writing on other online sites, I’d like to follow everything fresh you have to post.
Would you post a list of the complete urls of your social community sites
like your linkedin profile, Facebook page
    or twitter feed?
